Why We Like The Apex XT Bike Rack
Constructed for smooth, luxurious bike transportation, the Thule Apex XT Bike Rack provides improved ground and bumper clearance than its predecessors, and makes loading and unloading your bikes easier than ever before. The SnugTite stinger system allows for easy and secure installation without tools, while the the HideAway anti-sway cradles keep your bikes stable when you're on the road.
The compact cradle design accommodates a wide variety of bike sizes and frame styles, meaning there's room for the whole family, and all four bikes sit seven inches apart on the arms to provide optimal spacing and eliminate contact. The reinforced cradle straps are now 25% stronger than the previous version, and Thule even included an Integrated Locking Cable to secure your bikes to the rack. The Hitch-Switch design allows the carriers arms to fold down and the entire carrier rack to fold away when it's not loaded, giving you easy access to the rear of your vehicle.

Here's what customers have to say
The bike rack is generally well-received, with users praising its sturdy construction, ease of use, and ability to securely hold bikes. However, some encountered challenges, as it may only safely accommodate 2 bikes, especially larger or non-standard frames. There were also concerns about the straps and locking mechanism. Overall, it is a good quality rack that works well for many, but may not be suitable for all bike types or carrying more than 2 bikes.

Arms holding bikes broke off
We bought this with confidence after having sturdy Thule products in the past. After only four uses on our passenger van, an arm completely broke off, nearly totaling four of our kids bikes. All well below the weight limits for the arms. Tons of bounce in the arms for the bikes from the get go, straps worked fine. Was told it likely wasn’t the right hitch for our vehicle type so nothing covered by warranty.

Better than expected.
Perfect size and feature set for me. Very well constructed and I expect to get years of enjoyment from the rack. So great to be able to ride with friends.

Solid rack, one concern about hitch mount system
The rack is sturdy, well-built, and kept my bikes secure on the road. I was initially frustrated with the straps, but it turned out I was using them incorrectly. (If you don’t properly fit the ratcheting strap into the cradle, they can be difficult to loosen.) Now, onto my main concern: I’m still learning to fully trust the hitch mounting system. Since there’s no pin going through the parts, the rack is essentially held in place by "pressure." After the first use (around 100 miles), I noticed some wear marks on the 2-inch adapter, likely caused by wobbling. It also looks like the bolt rubbed against the “L” piece in the locking system, which has caused damage to the thread (see pictures). I came across another review where a damaged bolt was mentioned, and the knob was no longer tightening properly. In my case, the knob is still functioning, but I’m unsure how long it will last. For the price I paid, I honestly wasn’t expecting an issue like this.

Sturdy and Easy to Use
Been using this for a couple of years, including PA to FL trips as well as local. Very sturdy and solid. Easy to use. I don’t understand the difficulties others are having.

Great for 2 bikes not 4
Got four new mountain bikes, adult size, regular tires. No way in H I can fit more than 2 on this thing. To fit 3 or 4, I'd have to take off the tires. The zip tie downs also suck. They're a pain to use. I'm chucking them and will use regular zip ties and just cut them when done, assuming I don't take this back.

Love it
We just did over 1000 miles last week as we went to Zion from So Cal with our 4 bikes on it. I would highly recommend it although I’d change the strapping system as the oversized zip ties are kind of a nuisance to instead compared to the other belt style

Great product
This rack is well built and easy to assemble out of the box. Our first use was a 1000 km car ride which included two ferry crossings and all went well. The bikes are solidly secured to the rack which is solidly secured to the car. I followed the recommendations to verify the car connection after about 300 km but there was no need to adjust it. It's very easy and quick to get the bikes on and off the rack with no risks of scratching them (we did three rides during the trip). In our case (Chrysler 300), there is no need to tilt it to get to the trunk. And once we got back home, it took less than a minute to get it off the vehicle. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and would highly recommend it.

Solid product
I like the product, a bit expensive, but I couldn’t find something for much less and I had confidence in it. The straps are tricky, and that’s probably why I’ve seen a lot of complaints about them not working. They do work, but the instructions aren’t great, I basic and stumbled onto the trick to get them to work fully. The few I installed incorrectly were super difficult to get off, but after that I knew and it was easy. So maybe worth reviewing you manuals wrt to the straps.

So easy to use
Bought this specifically for ease of use - can install on and off very easily without tools or any trouble. Bikes are easy to mount. Locking features are great as well. Look forward to getting out and about with this trailer this season.
