Flawed Rod at Higher Weight

I purchased this rod from Backcountry at a 9wt. And have had it for 3 Alaska fishing seasons targeting primarly salmon in rivers. The rod has broken every season with new sections having to be purchased and warrentied from TFO. Most recently spectacularly just above the handle and in the second section concurrently while fighting a large red salmon on the Kenai River. I am an experienced angler that has not had an issue breaking rods before. In my experience the extra stiff design of this rod, which is nice for casting, at a 9 wt. makes the rod unreasonably brittle and prone to failure when fighting large fish.

Best Value Do It All Rod

I have been super pleased with this thing over the last year, and it has outdone every expectation I had for it. I bought this as a salt-ready 6wt, that I can pack for some light flats fishing, knowing that I can strap this to my carry-on and not worry about it getting bounced around or beaten up. I ended up packing this to almost every Idaho/Wyoming trip I have been on, and fish this as a big bug rod for trout. Big heavy nymph rigs, streamers, chubbies and salmonflies; this thing has the backbone to throw the big stuff, while not skimping on the touch and feel that you need to make those long delicate casts to picky fish. Salt-ready features mean I don't have to worry as much about washing this thing off after every use (because come on, we are all lazy at the end of a fishing trip, let's be real). Overall, this thing is a beast. Get one. You'll enjoy it.
