Why We Like The X Ultra 4 GTX Wide Hiking Shoe
Salomon's signature line of trail shoes returns with powerful upgrades, and this version is built to fit hikers and runners with wider feet. The new chassis protects ankle articulations on the outer foot, providing extra stability without limiting mobility, so we feel even more confident when navigating technical terrain. The Contagrip MA rubber sole has tire-like lugs that provide us with improved traction on a wide variety of surfaces. To make these shoes the ultimate trail companion, Salomon added GORE-TEX waterproofing to keep feet dry from the outside and inside.

Here's what customers have to say
The reviews on these hiking shoes are mixed. Many customers report the shoes are comfortable and well-made, with good traction and support. However, a significant number had issues with the fit, saying the shoes run small and narrow. Some found them painful to break in, with the tongue and lacing causing discomfort. There were also complaints about the durability, with the upper and laces failing prematurely. While some customers are satisfied, many others were disappointed and had to return the shoes due to fit and comfort problems.

Good fit.
Only had them for couple weeks. The fit is good same as my old X ultras. I don’t like new material it seems like it is going to be hard to break in. The material folds at the bend in toe box and bruises the top of my feet it is getting better with wear. I would not recommend buying these expecting to use them new they will hurt your feet. Would I recommend buying maybe ***

Features suck
I did not realize when I purchased them online that they did not have shoelaces that they were apull to tighten so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they should be all right. Well, I wore them one day and they keep coming loose. I hate them. I wish I didn’t burn the box so I could return them. Why wouldn’t they have shoelaces so you can tie their rugged wear shoe for hiking and they suck

Love em
Comfortable, waterproof and stylish! Use them for all day working, inside and out. Usually 11 to 12 hour days, stopped my knees and feet from hurting all day long. Love them!! Highly recommend!!

These shoes ran narrow in the midfoot.
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- 12
I ordered my usual size 12. They were too narrow in the fore foot but the length seemed fine. I ordered a 12 wide fit and they were still too narrow in the fore foot and the strap in the mid foot seemed uncomfortable. They did seem to have a lot of lateral stability though.

Comfortable, lightweight, and great traction
These hiking shoes are comfortable, lightweight, and have great traction. The Gore-Tex membrane means the majority of the shoe’s outer surface is water proof, making it easy to clean after a hike. The one con is that it took around 1 week / 25,000 steps to break in and become comfortable. A crease formed below the big toe of each foot that initially caused slight discomfort when walking, but after a week the crease got softer and there is no longer any discomfort.

Great outdoor shoes
I have been a loyal Salomon customer for many many years. Own multiple types of Salomon shoes from casual to heavy duty boots. Never disappointed, always got the best quality shoes . I bought the X ultra a month ago and so far absolutely satisfied, great multipurpose shoes! I love it!

Second pair of X ULTRA 4 WIDE GORE-TEX in 10.5
The extra tall heal tab is very comfortable and limits vertical travel of the foot within the shoe. Loved my last pair of these shoes, the lacing system is perfect for me, but the very thin laces eventually cut through a lower eyelet - it may need similar reinforcing as the upper eyelets. I was satisfied with the room in the toe box, but the flexibility of this area in the shoe I believe accelerates breakdown of the Gore-Tex upper. Very comfortable on mixed terrain, very easy to adjust/remove, satisfactory waterproofing, but durability leaves something to be desired.

I SHOULD HAVE BELIEVED THE OTHER REVIEWERS
THEY ONLY LASTED A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEFORE COMING APART EXACTLY WHERE OTHER REVIEWERS SAID THEY WOULD. I LOVE THE LOOK OF THESE AND HAVE OWNED PROBABLY 10 PAIRS, BUT I WILL HAVE TO MOVE ON TO ANOTHER BRAND. PS I CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWWEN THE WIDE VERSION I PURCHASED AND A COUPLE OF OLD PAIRS OF NORMAL WIDTH SHOES.

Great shoe with some wear issues
I am now on my fourth pair of x ultra 4 (wide) after trying Hokas and Merrells . The Salimon provides much more stability on uneven ground than the Hokas and is much lighter than the Merrells. Both Hokas and Merrells have their advantages but the x ultra 4 is a better fit for my foot and activity. Downsides? The Salomon’s tread while providing excellent traction, is not as durable as Vibrim soles. The last two pairs have areas on the top (where it flexes at the toes) that are separating but doesn’t seem to affect the waterproof sock lining. So far I haven’t found a better wide shoe for my foot.

Not wide at all.
This shoe has a "cowboy boot" toe box. It's unlike any other wide Salomon shoes.
