Why We Like The Red Wing Heritage Chukka Boot

The Red Wing Heritage Chukka Boot is a solid style originally made for those who worked indoors on heavy machinery and assembly lines. Their rugged leather upper will only ripen over time and is supported by triple-stitched seams for better longevity. Their softer Atlas tread sole was originally designed for work that required a lot of bending and lifting but will suit today's more casual boot wearers' style.

The reviews for these heritage chukka boots are mostly positive, with many customers praising the high quality, comfort, and durability. Reviewers report the boots are well-made with premium materials and excellent craftsmanship. They find the boots comfortable, especially after a short break-in period, and suitable for long periods of wear. Several mention the boots look great and can be dressed up or down. However, some had issues with the fit, saying the boots felt too tight or narrow. A few also experienced problems with the soles separating over time. Overall, the consensus is these are high-quality, comfortable, and stylish boots worth the investment, as long as the fit is right.

Best all around boots

I’ve been wearing the 3137 and 3141 copper and originals for over 10 years and can’t imagine having to replace them with something else. Please don’t discontinue them, bring these back as soon as possible.

They changed the design and now not a good fit

I originally purchased the work chukka in 2017. I wore it almost every day. Resolved it 4 times. Built four buildings during this time. Best boot I ever owned, hands down. When I decided I need a succession plan for when in the future I might need to retire them, I again purchased the work chukka. Only red wing changed the design. Now the boot doesn’t fit!!! I needed tried every size. Ended up settling on a size that wasn’t a good fit. I’m very frustrated and disappointed. Not sure what to do here. I’m stuck with bad fitting boots. Will probably toss them and get something else. Bad move Red wing. What happened to my favorite boots?

Excellent boot

I highly recommend these boots. They are of excellent quality and fit. They wear like iron and can be resoled by Redwing. I've been had mine 3 years of nearly constant wear.

Chukka

I heard this style shoe is being discontinued. I usually get them in the copper red color. Please please please don’t stop making this shoe. I wear mine almost daily, they’re a great all around shoe and look better as they age.

Love them shoes

Great work chukka!

I've been looking for a work chukka for a long time. Spent a lot of time researching. These boots were the right decision! I love them! Had to size down a half-size for the proper fit.

My go-to for almost everyday use

I was given these boots as a gift about 2 years ago to use for just everyday wear. I'm a college student, so it was a lot of walking around. The only reason for the 4 star is because it took a LONG time for me to break them in. It took way longer than I expected, about 2-3 straight months of everyday use if I were to take out all the gaps in between use. This went on for the first full year. Now that they're finally broken in however, I have to restrain myself from using them on the daily to avoid developing any foul odor. They are comfortable, can be used the entire day, don't cook my feet in the summer heat, and I would recommend them to anybody. The design works nice, but the back of the heel may cause some heavy friction during the break-in period. The back of the heel was the 2nd longest thing to break in for me, but once finished it fits like a smooth glove. The thing that took the longest to adapt to my foot seems to be the leather insole. The heel is also wearing down faster than the rest of the boot, but that's likely due to my way of walking. I'm excited to get them resoled in the future. I believe I was finally able to break them after I accidentally left them in a very humid environment for about a month. I came back to them being a shade darker (which looks pretty nice) and was happy to see there was no mold anywhere. They were much more comfortable to wear for longer periods after that, but the real break-in (specifically of the leather insole) was when I went to NY and forgot to bring another pair of shoes. 3 days of constant walking for 10+ hours hurt like a mofo, but the boot now fits me like a glove. Pretty stiff when cold, but they quickly warm up.

Awesome boot

This is my new favorite boot. The laces could’ve been longer. I replaced them with paracord laces. These shoes fit like a glove. They’re different feel at first but I settled into them nicely.

My new favorite boots

Historically, I’ve always been a Redwing 6”mock-toe (875, 8849) guy and of course, I still wear them. However, since my career has evolved into a less outdoor/rugged mode, I decided that I wanted to try the Work Chukka. I’m so glad I did! They are so comfortable and break-in is minimal. The boot is absolutely beautiful, and that beauty is elegantly simple. They are very versatile as well, and can be dressed up or down. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about them!

Poor design choices

I love Red Wings and I do love these boots. HOWEVER they have a pretty serious design issue that has really caused mine to wear out way faster than any other pair of Red Wings. The stitching together of the uppers occurs right where your foot bends and over time, this stitching will pop out and worse yet, the stitching that doesn't pop will cause the two pieces of leather to stretch and rip. I've worn mine every other day for about three or four years and they are essentially unrepairable at this point without some creativity on the cobbler's part. Yes I treat the leather and care for my boots just like every pair I own. No other boot or shoe that I own is constructed in this way. That said, these are worn every other day because they are extremely comfortable and the perfect height. I just wish I could stretch their life out significantly farther.
