Swift Lite Brimmer delivers breathable, ultralight sun protection for all-day adventures
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I rely on the Swift Lite Brimmer for sunny trail days or paddling trips—it stays put, keeps my face and neck shaded, and vents really well even when I’m sweating. It’s so light I forget I’m wearing it, and it packs down easily in my bag when the sun dips."
When our days take us from alpine ridgelines to winding desert trails or open water, we reach for the Outdoor Research Swift Lite Brimmer. This featherlight sun hat is built for movement and long hours under the sky, offering full-coverage protection for our face, ears, and neck without weighing us down. The updated design features bluesign®-approved fabric that wicks moisture, breathes effortlessly, and dries fast—perfect for everything from mid-summer summit pushes to lakeside lounging.
With a close-to-head fit and wide back brim for added coverage, the Swift Lite Brimmer blocks UV rays with UPF 30-rated fabric and stays secure even in gusty alpine winds. Side-panel perforations add ventilation where we need it most, and the packable build means it disappears into a pocket or pack when not in use. For long, sun-exposed missions or everyday trail use, this brimmer is a go-to piece of performance headwear.

Great shading hat! Love the fit but…
I bought this hat in late winter knowing I was going to spend more time in eastern Washington state where it’s sunny, warm and windy. I love the swift cap and this one is similar but has a nice shading brim. In April I was in Kittitas county wandering the Sage Shrub Steppe. The hat shaded me perfectly but often got blown off because there’s no chin strap. This hat would be absolutely perfect with a chin strap. I sewed one in. It’s perfect now!

Long lasting, light, looks good
I just bought a new replacement. The old hat was maybe ten years old and well worn. The old hat had velcro to hold the brim up.
