Why We Like The Outdoor Research Carryout Duffel 80L

Apart from our partner and pooch, the Outdoor Research Carryout Duffel 80L might be our most faithful travel companion. This go-anywhere duffel is weather-resistant and highly abrasion-resistant, thanks to its synthetic ripstop fabric, which stands up to the demands of travel and outdoor adventures. We like to stash our stanky shoes and sweaty clothes in the expandable side pocket to keep the rest of our clothes fresher and appreciate the versatility of the removable shoulder strap and backpack straps, which give us multiple ways to carry our luggage to the mountain, beach, lake, or resort.

Still new, but quality is good (like other OR gear I’ve had), functions well, and appears durable. “Dirty” clothes section is large (it’s a fabric section that creates a partition into main section). Straps remove if needed. Overall happy with the purchase so far. Great for any user, beginner or expert. Solid product for the money!

Decent quality and functionality, but the zippers are not my favorite. I have a similar Mystery Ranch duffel and would definitely prefer those zippers over the Outdoor Research zippers. Overall, this duffel works great for organizing camping gear in the back of my truck. Not sure about water resistance since I have not tested the bags in that environment at this point. Quality and durability seem OK but I’ll have a better feel for the quality ounce I check these bags with a commercial airline and the baggage handlers take out their anger on my duffels.

Amazing bag for gear

It’s a solid bag with the backpack straps, you can easily load it for a large weekend or for myself a overflow bag for search and rescue gear. It also doubles as a home base for much of my backup clothing due to the separate dirty clothes compartment. Buy it, and you’ll use it within the first day of owning it.

Great bag!

I bought this bag to carry my gear in the back of my truck. I have used it on two trips and it's just great. I appreciate the water resistant material and zippers. The handles are convenient. The straps work just fine as a backpack or a shoulder strap. I like the end compartment for dirty or wet items. I like the side pocket too. It all just works. I recommend this bag for anyone who needs a functional, rugged duffel.

Great duffle with a spot for boots

So far this duffle has been great. The end pocket has a liner that extends into the main bag, i use it to store boots or dirty laundry. I wear size 16 boots and it's large enough to hold em. Since purchasing I've packed it with enough clothes for a 2 week trip on several occasions.

Wish I could give 4 1/2 Stars…

I purchased 3 of these. 2 in Black and a 3rd in Green. I bought them for our trip out west (Vegas, Sequoia, Yosemite, Malibu, LA, back to Vegas). As previous reviews have stated, the construction is solid, zippers robust. It hold a ton of stuff and backpack straps are crucial. I do wish it had a grab strap on both ends instead of just one end though. That’d make it much easier for quick transfer/load & unload. I also wish it had another layer on the bottom just to reinforce a bit. After just one 10 day trip (albeit with multiple airline transfers and lots of load/unloads but mostly from SUV to luggage cart to hotel and back) the bottom is showing some scuffs and possibly some potential issues. Last video shows better than I can tell. We only ended up taking the green one because (as silly as this sounds), it looked the best. (Opted to take North Face & Big Agnes as other two bags) The black on black makes it almost impossible to see the OR logo. My wife would not believe they were the same bag until I took them out into the sun and angled them just right. Functionally the bag held its own, filled with ropes, harnesses, pro, helmets, shoes, fans, etc and looked fine on the luggage cart at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas to the Fairfield Inn Fresno to the Roosevelt Hotel in LA. If possible I’d exchange the 2 black for green in a heartbeat, but alas, that’s not an option with OR Expert Voice purchase. I wish I didn’t have to take a full star away for a design issue that in no way impacts functionality, but it is what it is.

Don't believe the hype - flimsy at best.

Didn't last one trip. I am a guide for an international travel company, and I bought this specifically to use when I went on safari in Tanzania. We use Land Cruisers and pack all the gear in the back (inside) Within three days, the bag had ripped (not on a seam); the material is too thin to be viable for any real use outside a hotel. I have a similar bag of notable brand (starts with a P) and I have taken it all over the world for several years. I'm super disappointed with O.R. on this one. I would NOT recommend. Unfortunately because of my job, I cannot return this product. Sad to say, but I will not be promoting this product to our clients. Look for other duffels if you plan to use this as it is described.

Enormous, reliable, well-made bag

This is a great bag. I purchased it to use on an eight day camping trip and was not disappointed. The bag is made of high quality material and well made. It's water resistant, durable, and has tons of options for carrying. I especially liked the backpack straps and regular straps. The end section was great for segmenting items - I used it for separating dirty and clean clothes. My one change would be to add a single shoulder strap to give a third option for carrying, but don't let that keep you from getting this bag. It's HUGE and will work for any of your needs.
