Why We Like The La Sportiva G-Tech Mountaineering Boot
La Sportiva thinks their new, G-Tech Mountaineering boot may be the new reference point for technical mountaineering boots! In particular, it's pulled off the perfect blend of ultralight construction, durable materials, superlative comfort, and elite performance for technical ice climbing and mountaineering. The internal Core-Wrap Shell has an overlap structure that balances weight and warmth while the BOA Fit System lets us adjust the lacing fastener while wearing gloves. The Ice-Trek Tread divides the outsole into two sections— there's Vibram Litebase up front for great climbing grip (and less overall weight) and Vibram Springlug on the heel for more comfort and shock absorption.

Love these low-profile, lightweight, boa-system boots from Sportiva. Been wearing heavy leather crampon compatible Sportivas for the past 25-30 years (Eigers, etc.), and finally decided to try something different. So glad I did! Went up Baker with these recently and they were a dream, from the approach to glacier travel to the Roman Wall - no issues at all. Really like being able to change the tightness on the fly - I always appreciate having boots be a bit tighter on the downhill with crampons to prevent toe issues. I will say that I sized up a half size and it took a little back and forth in terms of trying them on. And they're narrow, so might not be well suited if you have wide feet (I have "normal" width feet). All that said, I'm all in for the G-techs, and my next buy in the mountaineering footwear department will likely be the G-Summits...
