Why We Like The Targhee III Mid Leather Waterproof Hiking Boot

The Men's Targhee III Mid Leather Waterproof Hiking Boot is Keen's answer to any trail that's considered difficult. Not only does it have the stability and support for hiking rough terrain, but it also has the waterproof, breathable protection required for hiking in variable conditions. The leather exterior is as rugged as the mesh lining is cushy and breathable, and Keen treated the interior to reduce odor buildup over time. The rubber sole features multi-directional lugs to ensure traction on the downhill as well as the uphill.

Here's what customers have to say

The hiking boots are generally comfortable and supportive, with good traction and stability. However, some users have experienced issues with the quality and durability, such as the soles and uppers separating or wearing out prematurely. There are also a few complaints about the waterproofing not being as effective as claimed. Overall, the boots seem to be a suitable option for hiking and outdoor activities, but the consistency of quality may vary.

Garbage, pure Garbage. This pair of hiking boots began to delam after 6 months when I started to glue the sole back onto the shoe. Please see attached pics of the sole falling from everywhere on the boot when I took them out of the closet for this summer. Look at the shoelaces and compare them to the soles and look at the fronts of the boot to see how much use they have had. Please look at all the 406 trustpilot reviews; they get a 1.7 out of 5. Look at the reddit thread; “keen is a garbage company” under r/hiking. read sitejabber.com (they 1.3 stars out of 5). Try trailvistas.com “hint: they suck- trailvistas.” See what the rest of the world says about the quality of the product they sell, and how they stand by the products. look at all the uploaded photos of the delaming. Make up your own mind, but they are Garbage, pure Garbage.

Didn’t hold up

My previous Keens were great, they made it through 4 years of working at multiple National Parks and going abroad until I finally wore the soles out. I got the Targhee III to replace them and they’ve fallen apart in less than two years. When I first got them I had issues with the tread pulling away from the main part of the sole which was fixed by some gorilla glue but now the entire foot bed is separating from the upper. Really disappointing when my last pair was so dependable and this pair barely made it through a summer and half of use.

Long Time Keen-head Losing Faith

Keen, I wish I knew how to quit you. I have exclusively worn Keen hiking boots for close to 25 years. I can't tell you how many pairs of Targhee III's alone I've owned, but it's a lot. They have been my comfortable and reliable choice but I feel there is something wrong with how the soles have been constructed. The last couple of pairs have gone completely soft on me. I admit I'm a bit of a tenderfoot but I don't think I should be feeling every stone on the trail poking through. Not to mention the tread shredding away far too soon. I just want you to be better so I can keep on wearing my beloved Keen Targhees.

Very comfortable and dry!

Bought these to replace an older pair of Keen hiking boots. The first time out of the box i wore them to Ontario for a week long fishing trip. They were amazingly comfortable from the first time I slipped them on. We got rain a couple of days and my feet stayed quite dry in the boat as well as on shore. Very impressed with these boots!!!

They fell apart! Again! Just after warranty expired!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am giving up on Keen hiking boots. I have worn out their warranty department with 3 replacements now, and while my feet have really loved them over the last several years, at about the 18 month point, the uppers crack near the toebox and there they go. The first pair had a defective speed lace grommet, so they sent me a credit to replace that pair. The second developed the aforementioned cracks on the upper. I talked them into sending me a credit even after the 12-month warranty period had passed, and my current pair I noticed this weekend had developed the same cracks. Every other part of the boot is in good shape, laces, inners, soles, etc. My 58-year old feet that have suffered bouts of plantar fasciitis are happy inside, but they aren't so cheap I can dispose of them every 18 months. I see another review with similar complaints, so you'd think they could fix it. Sorry Keen, no more. Three strikes and you're gone.

Perfect fit; great feel

Love these Targhee III boots. Have a couple of the low cut as well. Bought a second pair since they are discontinued. Have found the "III" to be better than the new "IV" model. Have a slightly wide food but size 10 Regular fits great.

I love this boot

I have needed a new pair of hiking boots for a while and I wanted to make sure they ticked off the right boxes: water resistent/proof, good fit, solid base. This boot does that. I used them to hike around in the snow for an entire weekend and my feet never got wet or cold and I felt very stable the entire time. Cannot wait to get some mud and dirt from more trails on these.
