FirstLight Tent
Completely redesigned, the FirstLight Tent is Black Diamond's optimal shelter for serious mountain missions. It's still the lightest, most packable tent that Black Diamond builds, and it's been updated to maximize airflow while still minimizing weight. Black Diamond's new (patent pending) Flow Manifold technology allows interior heat convection and exterior airflow to draw moisture vapor out of the tent, so you don't have a crisp layer of frost on your sleeping bag every morning. Flow Manifold also allows for a central, ceiling exit for anchoring in on steep mountaineering expeditions. Made with Dyneema, the guylines are significantly stronger than the previous season's FirstLight, and the internal pole grips are reinforced for better longevity.

Here's what customers have to say
The tent has a mixed reception. Positives include its lightweight and compact design, as well as its ability to withstand wind and light rain. However, some users report issues with water leakage and condensation, especially in colder or wetter conditions. The small size may also be a concern for taller users. The tent appears suitable for fair-weather camping and backpacking, but may not perform well in more extreme weather.

Perfect for one person in winter
Camped out at 11,000 feet on Long's Peak on X-Mas Day fifteen years ago. Howling winds and drifting snow, below zero temps. Easy set-up. Plenty of room for one plus gear. Dark at 4 light at 7. Spent my time drinking Jamisons and thinking about the tiny canister of gas that made it possible for me to be there.

Silnet not included. Bad start.
Both the website and the instructions for this tent state that 1 tube of Silnet (needed for seam sealing) are included with the tent. My tent did not come with Silnet, so I'll have to make a special trip to get some. I can see from other reviews that this has happened with others too. It really should be included. But at a very minimum BD should update the instructions and web site if this is not included. Not a good way to get started with a new product.

Great, lightweight 4 season tent.
Great, lightweight 4 season tent. Used it on Mount Adams in a storm and it held up well. Just wish it came already seam sealed!

Bombproof lightweight tent
A fantastic tent when used for its intended purpose. It's pretty tight for two, but very light weight and holds up well in bad condition. Highly recommend to seal the seams which adds a lot of waterproofness

From Bike Touring to Living in Nepal
If I'm not on a bike tour somewhere in the world, I am more than likely at my home in Nepal or Colorado. I am always on the lookout for a lightweight well-made, high quality, self-standing and weather proof tent. Yes, I use this while on my bike and when away from home in either the U. S. or Nepal, I find it extremely useful to have this tent sitting in the bottom of my pack ready-to-use at a moment's notice. When I let people know that I don't need my own room, I'm suddenly an invited guest! I am a huge supporter of Bibler/Black Diamond tents and have used several models extensively around the world for decades.

Great for car camping
I'm pretty much just a weekend warrior and go car camping. I used it when the weather dropped around 50°f and was pretty comfortable. The only issue I have is I wish it was an inch longer or I could stake out the back of the tent and pull it back some my. I'm 6ft 1 and I have no extra room between my head and the tent.

Fills all of my needs
Great tent, set up is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Extra canvas in the corners are great for preventing tent poles from punching through. I would definitely recommend it.

NOT WATERPROOF AT ALL.
I attempted a Mt. Baker/Kulshan summit on 6/26. It started raining when we got back to Hog's Back (basecamp) at around 11am. By 11:30, the tent had started leaking from the seams/poles (since they're on the inside). Water was dripping down on my face while I was napping, which is why I noticed. The rain stopped at around 1/1:30pm, but started back up at around 5. It rained from 5pm, through the night, and into the next morning. When I woke up at 7am, everything in my tent was wet. I mean everything. My backpack, my sleeping bag, my shoes... It was all soaked through. There were multiple puddles on the ground of the tent. I luckily had a dry bag with a few items of clothing and my big puffer, so I could put some dry layers on before heading back to our cars that morning. I would not have been able to stay another day on the mountain in the condition that the tent and my personal items were in. Another individual in our group had the same tent and experienced the same issues (not waterproof, woke up next to puddles and wet personal items), so this is clearly not an isolated experience or a single, defective tent that was sold to me. How can Black Diamond, in good conscience, say that this is a four season tent? It's not at all. Please do better. Seal the seams on this tent before selling it to people who are planning on using it in potentially extreme weather conditions.

the industry standard
this is still the gold standard bivy tent for climbers - light, weatherproof enough for most of the times you are actually out trying to climb something, and cheap enough to thrash. super quick and easy to pop once you do it a couple times. of course if you're over 6, then you're definitely touching foot and head unless you can sleep diagonally - which is a palace for one. BD - make a firstlight with longer dimensions please.
